Great Scientific Collaborations

The Space Race, declared by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, demonstrates that scientific leadership, vision, and courage can be applied to our most pressing and important tasks. It was a challenge to our greatest minds and most inventive talents. And MIT answered this call.

Today, we face a new kind of problem. Addressing the world's energy needs is, indeed, the central challenge of our time. Our energy security is inextricably linked with our economic, environmental, and national security. The MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) is convening a global conversation on the challenges, the opportunities, the agenda, and the focused intensity necessary to secure our energy future.

MITEI has partners all over the world. Alongside our peers in Europe, India, China, and the Middle East, our research programs develop the technologies, systems, and tools to meet the energy needs of the 21st century.
