Masdar Institute of Science and Technology

MITs Technology and Development Program (TDP) is working with the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (ADFEC) to help develop the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, a premier engineering post-graduate educational and research institute in Abu Dhabi.

The Masdar Institute is a private, not-for-profit, independent, graduate school which will offer masters and eventually PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines and will admit its first students in Abu Dhabi in the summer of 2009. This institution will serve the interests of the country and the region by training and educating a workforce that will be prepared to compete in the global market. It is the centerpiece of the Masdar Initiative, a landmark program announced in April 2006 by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy.

MIT faculty and staff are providing advice, scholarly assessment, and assistance in connection with the establishment of the Masdar Institute. Masdar faculty, while at MIT, will develop collaborative research programs and the academic curriculum that will be offered in Abu Dhabi beginning August 23, 2009.
